At last! Available again for the fist time in over 25 years! Two classic and ultra hard to find ‘semi official’ Mercyful Fate classic Fan club recordings. Originally released for a short period in the mid 1980’s, these two vinyl LPs became part of the folklore of one of the greatest black metal acts of all time. ‘Curse of the Pharaohs’ is an 11 track collection of rare demo recordings including the band’s stunning cover of the Maiden classic ‘Running Free’. ‘Live from the depths of hell’ was originally released in 1984 and consists of 14 soundboard quality live songs. The story behind these releases is cloaked in mystery and intrigue. Most ‘experts’ on the band consider them to be true fan club releases, but there is more to the story. The very strong rumour is that the bands original manager passed these tapes to a ‘legitimate’ and actually well known label in…..let’s say….’One of the Benelux countries’. Hoping to clear them as totally official releases, the label realized that there would be contractual problems with the band and their official labels, Roadrunner and Music For Nations. A compromise was reached where a new ‘semi official sub label’ was created especially for the two albums. (Satans Nightmare Records). The albums went out through normal distribution channels, (even the biggest wholesaler in Europe at the time sold them to various shops and mailorder companies). The legendary ‘Shades Records’ shop in London sold over 500 of each! But suddenly, and without warning, they were deleted. Was it because of pressure from the band or their label? Maybe we shall never know. But disappear they did. Originals fare now fetching up to 150 USD, even in used condition. Now, in 2013, they are available again. And this time on awesome coloured vinyl.
